about
J’ai écrit la Nuit dans un hôtel miteux au pied de la pyramide de Khéops et du fameux sphinx de Gizeh. Dans une chambre sans fenêtre, éclairée par une ampoule basse consommation, j’ai tué le temps pendant une dizaine de jours. Le matin, j’allais rejoindre les chiens errants allongés devant les rangées de chaises vides qui observaient avec indifférence la grande chimère. A l’arrivée des premiers touristes, j’empruntais les trottoirs poussiéreux et étroits en prenant soin de fermer mon gilet sous 44° et de ne croiser aucun regard. J’allai finalement observer depuis le toit de l’hôtel, les poulaillers et les foyers misérables dans quelques centaines de masures nouvelles, de ruines inachevées depuis le printemps égyptien. Les tombeaux en perçaient les briques bon marché. Comme moi, quelqu’un avait sans doute scruté ce monumental secret depuis le fauteuil crevé d’un salon démonté à quelques mètres. J’écrirai peut-être un jour une chanson sur ces moments où mes oreilles n’entendaient pas ce que mes yeux regardaient.
lyrics
POURQUOI JE BRÛLE?
POURTANT JE ME DEMANDE POURQUOI JE BRÛLE.
LA NUIT JE DANSE SUR LES CENDRES
TOMBÉES LES JOURS DES FLAMBÉES
RESSEMBLENT TOUTES À S'Y MÉPRENDRE
AUX FEUILLES D'AUTOMNE BALAYÉES
CAR C'EST SOUS L'ÉCLAIR DE LA NUIT
DRAPÉES DES ÂMES DOULOUREUSES
QUE DANSENT LES MÈRES SANS PETITS
PARQUES DU TEMPS, MORNES FILEUSES.
L'HEURE DES PLEURS RÉPRIMÉS
S'ACHÈVENT AU TENDRE CRÉPUSCULE
OÙ LES HIBOUX OUVRENT LES YEUX
ET ME DEMANDENT POURQUOI JE BRÛLE.
LES DRAPS BRÛLENT DANS LE NOIR
TORCHES ÉTERNELLES, INÉPUISABLES
CAR C'EST LA CHAIR CRÉPITANTE
DES FANTÔMES INCONSOLABLES
SOUS L'ARBRE BLEU D'UNE NUIT D'ÉTÉ,
LES ÉTOILES TOMBENT PAR MILLIERS
TANDIS QU'AU LOIN ON SE RESSEMBLE
AUTOUR DU FEU D'AUTODAFÉS.
L'HEURE DES PLEURS RÉPRIMÉS
S'ACHÈVENT AU TENDRE CRÉPUSCULE
OÙ LES HIBOUX OUVRENT LES YEUX
ET ME DEMANDENT POURQUOI JE BRÛLE.
UN OURS BLANC MARCHE DANS LE SABLE.
DANS LE DÉSERT IL FAIT SI FROID LA NUIT.
TROUVE-T-IL REFUGE À SON ÉCLAT?
UN DRAP S'AGRIPPE À LA FENÊTRE,
REMONTE ENFIN JUSQU'AU DORTOIR,
S'ÉTEND SUR LES CORPS ENDORMIS
POUR QU'ILS RECOUVRENT LA MÉMOIRE.
MAIS L'AUBE AVALE LE SILENCE
QUI CRACHE LÀ SON DERNIER CRI
AVANT QUE N'ENTRENT DANS L'ERRANCE
LES HOMMES QUI S'ÉVEILLENT À L'OUBLI.
NOUS SOMMES CE QUE VOUS N'ÊTES PLUS,
CE QUE VOUS NE SAVEZ PLUS ÊTRE.
NOUS SOMMES CE QUE VOUS N'ÊTES PLUS,
CE QUE VOUS NE SAVEZ PLUS ÊTRE.
C'EST L'HEURE DE RÉPRIMER LES PLEURS
COMMENCE LE JOUR SOUS LES YEUX
D'OISEAUX DAMNÉS QUI ULULENT
ME DEMANDANT POURQUOI JE BRÛLE.
